Food and Drink

Food and Drink

Food and drink have been the favorite subjects of many painters throughout the history of art. Often the representation of food had a symbolic character as in the famous painting of Caravaggio's fruit basket. The healthy fruits close to the kissed ones represent the transience of human life, while the grape depicts the blood of Christ. Other symbolic connotations of food can be seen in The last Supper painted by Leonardo da Vinci: every apostle has a glass, and in the dishes there are fish and slices of orange. Judas, with an improvised movement, pours salt with his elbow. This is a symbol of ill omen, and at the same time has a religious significance: in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls his disciples "salt of the earth" for their mission as his messengers, a mission to which Judah would not have fulfilled. The apple represents the forbidden fruit of the earthly paradise, the original sin in which Adam and Eve have fallen; while an apple in the hands of the Child Jesus and the Virgin acquires a meaning of salvation and redemption. In the modern era, Vincent Van Gogh in his painting "the potato eaters" denounces the laborious hardship of the peasants depicted in front of a single pot of potatoes. In contemporary art Andy Warhol portrays the can of Campbell's Soup Can that was  a message of equality in the wake of the American dream, which dreams equal chances for all. Warhol has also designed the cover of the album "The Velvet Underground" of the American rock band, depicting a simple banana of an intense yellow on a white background, which in the early editions could also be peeled revealing a flesh-colored fruit. The cover has conquered the tenth place in the ranking of the 100 most beautiful covers of all time Rolling Stone magazine. In Shopart there are not only reproductions on canvas of works of art with representations of food and drinks, but also modern paintings, posters and photographs of the author mounted on MDF wood panels that meet different stylistic requirements, from classic furniture to the decoration of refined design environments. In Shopart you will find pictures of food and drinks for art lovers or simply for the furnishing of farmhouses, hotel restaurants and more.
