Symbolism is an artistic and cultural movement born in France in the nineteenth century and later developed in the rest of europe. In the figurative arts, symbolism is dedicated to a cultured and sensitive public due to its very complex contents. The themes addressed by the symbolist painters are linked to religion, dreams and mythology.
